Tipp footballers could lose home game in 2019 National League

The Tipperary senior footballers are one of ten counties set to lose a home game in next years National League arising from breaches of the regulations on training camps earlier this year.

Under regulations tightened at last Septembers Special Congress, no training camps are allowed at home or abroad, except in the ten days before a championship match.

However, the Premier footballers spent two days at the Fota Island resort in Cork on Sunday 6th & Monday 7th May as part of their preparations for the Munster Championship, however, their first game didn't take place until 19th May against Waterford, two days outside the limit.

Tipperary County Board admitted to the breach when informed by Croke Park but argued that they had complied with the rules regarding challenge games not being permitted on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, as well as using all available weekends in April to play club championships, despite losing two weekends because of the delayed finish to the National Hurling League because of the snow in March.

The loss of a potential home game could be huge for Tipperary next year in what is set to be an even more difficult division 2 of the league than it was in 2018 as it contains Donegal and Kildare who were relegated from division 1, Armagh and Fermanagh promoted from division 3, as well as Munster rivals Cork and Clare, with Meath making up the eight teams. However, Armagh are also one of the teams in breach of the rule have undertaken an overseas training camp.
