Celebrating International Credit Union Day in Nenagh

Intenrnational Credit Union Day - ‘Inspiring Hope for a Global Community’ .

This Thursday, October 15th, Nenagh Credit Union will be joining members around the world to celebrate International Credit Union Day, an annual event to commemorate the credit union movement’s impact and achievements. This year’s theme is ‘Inspiring Hope for a Global Community’ and Nenagh Credit Union is joining Credit Unions around the world to celebrate!

This year’s theme reflects how Credit Unions around the globe have continued to provide a high level of service to their members and demonstrated a generosity to their local communities during the Covid-19 crisis that has set them apart from other financial institutions. We are truly inspiring hope for a global Credit Union community. It is also a chance to be thankful for the lives and communities that have been improved by the Credit Union movement.

In Ireland, credit unions are more important and relevant than ever. There are now 3.6 million Credit Union members on the island of Ireland with one in two people living on the island having a Credit Union account.
Credit unions are ethical, not-for-profit lenders that continue to provide effective and viable alternatives to financial institutions which operate for profit. Credit Unions genuinely care about their members, and put them at the heart of everything they do. Credit unions in the Rep. of Ireland earned the number one spot for the best customer experience in Ireland for the fifth consecutive year last year. The news was announced at the official CX Awards ceremony on October 8th, 2019. The achievement was a world first, with no other organisation across the globe claiming the top spot for five years running.

To mark the occasion Nenagh Credit Union will be holding a draw on November 30th. All members who are registered for on-line banking at close of business on November 30th will be in with a chance to win one of 2 prizes of €100 shop local vouchers. Nenagh Credit Union would like to encourage all their members to register their account online. This provides members with 24 hour access to their account, the ability to view their statements, and also helps reduce our carbon foot print. Nenagh Credit Union are advocates of shopping local and supporting our community.

Pat Naughton CEO at Nenagh Credit Union said: “Our community is our backbone and we are so proud here at Nenagh Credit Union of the effort and impact we have and continue to make for our members. Our goal is to offer access to affordable financial services to our members. During the Covid-19 pandemic we like all other business have worked tirelessly to ensure that we remained open and continued to provide essential financial services to our members. We believe that Nenagh Credit Union makes a real, positive impact on the lives of people in the Nenagh area. We look forward to celebrating this with our members, and indeed the whole community, on ICU Day.”

ICU Day celebrates the spirit of the global credit union movement. It is an opportunity to reflect upon the credit union movement’s history, promote its achievements, recognise the hard work and share member experiences. Now more than ever the local community needs to work together.
