Live and virtual events planned for Culture Night in Tipp

Culture Night is the annual, all-island public event that celebrates culture, creativity and the arts. On Friday, September 18th, County Tipperary is delighted to be hosting a fantastic mix of free live and virtual events across the county as part of the national celebration. This year has presented some new challenges, but we are working alongside our Culture Night partners across the County to create a memorable night for all.

On Culture Night, events, both live and virtual lead the charge in Nenagh, Dromineer and Cloughjordan. Culture Night is an opportunity for everyone to participate in something new.
In a unique partnership between Nenagh Arts Centre, Tipperary Culture Night and Limerick School of Art and Design, a series of vibrant projections will light up the arts centre featuring the work of Tipperary based Digital Animation students as their work is projected onto the outside of the building. Booking in family pods of up to three people are welcome.

This outdoor event will be hosted within Government guidelines in an allocated viewing area.
Alongside Nenagh Arts Centre, visit Solas, a light installation by Nenagh artist Joe Geaney which was commissioned by Tipperary Arts Office for Culture Night 2020 comprising a series of LED lights in the grounds of Nenagh Castle.
The audience is welcome to walk through the castle grounds and reflect at the beacon of lights as they pass through.

Audiences can also take a poetic stroll in picturesque Dromineer combining the heritage and literature of the lakeside setting. Poetry has come to the rescue for many in recent times and on Culture Night, Dromineer poet Eleanor Hooker will lead us on a lyrical wander by the lakeshore, her natural habitat as a poet, as a lover of the lake and as a source of much of her writing.
Joining Eleanor on the evening will be local historian, Danny Grace who will give us a historical account of the sites visited on the walk. There'll be a warming cuppa afterwards. Booking essential.

Over in Cloughjordan, MotionOptic is a Culture Night commission which is part of a wider Instant Dissidence research project into re-thinking the notion of an international dance company in the context of the climate emergency and the pandemic. The company’s Artistic Director Rita Marcalo asks the question of whether her village could become her company of dancers collaborating with Cloughjordan-based movers Patrick O’Connor and Aaron Bailey. This dance piece uses virtual reality through your mobile phone and takes place on the Village Green in Cloughjordan between 4-8pm. Booking essential.

Live online workshops with Music Generation Tipperary will be available throughout the weekend and singer songwriter Edel Meade from Clonmel presents a magical online performance of her latest songs. You can also check out three Tipperary based stories from renowned Traditional Storyteller Niall de Burca.
