Cllr Morris sent photographs of the dumped rubbish to the Environment section at Tipperary Co Council.

Rubbish dumped at Nenagh barracks

Local councillor Séamus Morris has written to Tipperary Co Council over the dumping of rubbish at Nenagh's long-disused military barracks site.

Cllr Morris submitted several photographs showing a variety of waste dumped at the site. He added photographs of overgrowth of trees and bushes into the Hawthorns residential estate from the barracks site.

“I am appealing to Tipperary County Council to ask the Department of Defence to come up with a plan to avoid dereliction of the site as they had promised to in 2004,” Cllr Morris wrote. He said he is aware that the department is drawing up a plan of title with regard to ownership at the site. Cllr Morris asked for a copy of this, as well as a plan to tackle the regular dumping of rubbish at the barracks.

“The site needs action now,” Cllr Morris said, adding that the barracks structure itself is “ready to fall”. He expressed concern that the site can be accessed by children as the fence is opened up for such access. He submitted drone footage to illustrate the poor condition of the barracks.

“The people of Nenagh deserve better from the Department of Defence than to let this area fall into further dereliction,” Cllr Morris stated.
