Nenagh family supports the hospice

A Nenagh family was delighted to this week present the record proceeds of their Christmas fundraiser to North Tipperary Hospice Movement.

Every Christmas for the last 30 years or so, Pat and Patricia Ahern have decked out their house and garden in Yewston with a wonderful array of lights and decorations. People come from all over town and beyond to marvel at the sight.

In recent years, the Aherns decided to invite visitors to make a donation to North Tipperary Hospice. Their most recent event has raised a total of €2,255, making it the most successful yet. The money was gratefully accepted this week by Lelia Kelly and Geri Cantwell of North Tipp Hospice.

The Aherns would like to express their gratitude to everyone who supported their fundraiser last December and January, and all who took part in the annual switching on of the lights party. A special word of thanks to Liam Moloney for playing the part of Santa and to Philly Ryan for turning on the lights. Thanks to the musicians that played that evening, including Nenagh Brass Band, Diarmuid Quirke, Aaron Galvin, Roisín Galvin and Kevin Liston, along with helpers Aaron Shoer and Mark and Ben Wallace.

Thanks also to everyone who contributed prizes for the event, including: DK Travel, Philip's Furniture, Thatched Cottage, Hanlys' Woollen Mills, Frances Ryan, Collins Bakery, Centra, Elizabeth Rose, Florence Ryan, Clare St Pharmacy, Arrabawn, Donal O'Connor, Tom Walsh, Abbey Court Leisure Centre, Nora Lucy, Kathryn Quirke and Jack O'Meara.

The Ahearns would like to express further appreciation to Ballycommon Ladies Club, Martina Jones, Back to Basic, Nenagh Flower and Garden Club, Fr Des and the Parish Newsletter team, the Nenagh Guardian, local photographers Odhran Ducie and Bridget Delaney, family, friends, neighbours and everyone else who helped out. Needless to say they're already looking forward to holding to event again next Christmas!
