€2m for 60-bed inpatient block at UHL

UL Hospitals Group welcomes the allocation of €2m in capital funding to progress the enabling works for the 60-bed inpatient block at University Hospital Limerick.

The enabling works will be the first phase of this c. €19.5 million project. It is expected that a commencement notice will be lodged with Limerick City and County Council within the next week for these enabling works. It is anticipated that these works would then commence before the end of March 2019.

UL Hospitals Group looks forward in anticipation to the approval of the HSE Capital Plan for 2019. A timeline for overall project completion cannot be advised until funding is approved for the main modular build contract itself.

Speaking last Friday, Colette Cowan, CEO, UL Hospitals Group, said: “I am delighted that funding has now been approved for the enabling works and we can now commence work on this important project. It is accepted by all stakeholders that there is an imbalance in acute hospital bed capacity around the country. Delivery of the 60-bed inpatient block at UHL will begin to help us address our capacity issues in the Mid West. We will continue to work with all stakeholders to progress the project.”
