TY students to make long lasting memories of their journey to school.

TY students encouraged to think up transport ideas

Bus Éireann, the largest public transport provider outside of Dublin and in our regional cities and towns, is inviting Transition Year students from Tipperary to enter its Go Places with Bus Éireann competition.

School days are often said to be ‘the best days of your lives’ so Bus Éireann is encouraging TY students to make long lasting memories of their journey to school. Entries can be submitted in video, photo or written format and students are being asked to capture highlights of their journey in a creative and personal way.

For over 50 years, Bus Éireann has been operating the School Transport Scheme on behalf of the Department of Education & Skills. Every school day over 118,000 students from 3,000 schools around the country travel to and from school on the scheme, on 5,000 vehicles across 7,000 routes. In Tipperary alone, this involves 356 school runs, bringing 5,510 pupils to school in 25 vehicles.

By getting involved in Go Places, TY students will not only develop self-directed learning skills that will stand to them in the Leaving Certificate cycle, but they will also document precious school memories for times to come. Not only that, but there are also some great prizes up for grabs, including iPads for regional winners and a trip to Tayto Park including bus transport for the class of the national winner.

Last year, Alannah Doherty from St Clare Comprehensive school Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim, won the hearts and minds of the judges with her creative photo diary, and was awarded both the West regional winner as well as the national overall winner. Jane Tiernan from Christ King Secondary School in Douglas, Co Cork won the South regional prize and Ruairí Meehan from Dunshaughlin Community School, Co Meath won the East regional prize.

Go Places with Bus Éireann is open to all TY students from across the Republic of Ireland; the deadline for entries is March 15th. Full details are available at www.goplaceswithbe.ie
