Mindfulness colouring at the Blue Door

The Blue Door creative space in Nenagh has started a new session/group called Mindfulness Colouring at the Blue Door Studio.

Mindfulness colouring is where you are focusing on the act of colouring, which brings you into the moment; the brain is occupied with the colouring, which means it doesn’t drift into mind-boggling tangents.

However, doing it at the Blue Door is even more special because the space is set up in a particular way that creates a calm, relaxing atmosphere. The space is lit by a number of cosy looking lamps, there is incense burning, there is beautiful and relaxing music playing, the space itself looks inspiring with all of its furniture, wall art and colourful design. This triggers all of the senses, especially the sense of smell, sound and sight. The low light is soothing on the eyes and it creates a soothing atmosphere for the mind and body.

With all the senses triggered, it opens up the endorphins, which puts the mind and body at ease. It is scientifically proven that colour and colouring improves one’s mental health as it relieves stress and anxiety.

When you get to the Blue Door all you have to do is find a comfortable place to sit, focus on being present in the moment by concentrating on the colouring, listening and focusing on the music and focusing on the smell of the incense burning in the room. Once you do this you will automatically fall into a meditative state. You will leave feeling relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated and, because it is in the evening, you will have an amazing night’s sleep.
“I did this last Thursday and I haven’t slept so well in a long time!” said Joanna Ryan-Purcell of the Blue Door.

“I love creating an atmosphere with interior design, lighting and scents. It is one thing I really enjoy doing and I feel that the atmosphere I have created at the Blue Door for the mindfulness colouring really enhances one’s experience of feeling that relaxed and meditative state.”

If you would like to partake in the Mindfulness Colouring at the Blue Door, it takes place every Thursday evening at 7pm at the Blue Door on 5 Pearse Street, Nenagh (near the traffic lights and opposite DV8). It is a donation-based class, so whatever you feel you would like to contribute. All proceeds go towards keeping the Blue Door up and running and keeping the space open and continuing to shape and mould it into a wonderful, creative, open-minded and judgmental free space.
