Launch of 'Cloughjordan Heritage' Vol X

At this time of a decade of commemorations, we are reminded to cherish the memory of those who have paved the way for the life we enjoy, in freedom and peace.

Each of the volumes of 'Cloughjordan Heritage', first published in 1985, bring to mind the people and events that have shaped our locality. Cavafy wrote: “In those few fields or streets of your childhood there, no matter where you roam, you will live and die.” Through the series, the reader will be attracted to the people and places, the heritage and culture of Cloughjordan and the surrounding area, or perhaps be enriched with a sense of belonging.

This, the tenth volume in the series, presents a wide and diverse content with articles gathered from new and familiar contributors. Topics include people of the area (past and present), events of commemoration (national and international), articles on a variety of sports, history and politics, life in a castle and life in famine times, and aspects of the way we live today.

It is hoped that this volume in the series 'Cloughjordan Heritage' proves to be as popular as the previous publications and that it will be a resource that will pass to future generations to learn from and enjoy.

The Cloughjordan Heritage Group look forward to presenting Volume X in the series on next Friday, December 7th, at 8pm in the Thomas MacDonagh Museum.
