Ormond Comhaltas to host Tipp Fleadh 2019 in Ballina

At the 2018 Cruinniú Cinn Bhliain of Comhaltas Ceoiltóirí Éireann Bord Condae Tiobraid Árainn, Craobh Ormond were given the honour of hosting the 2019 Fleadh Cheoil an Chondae.

Great effort has been put into the running of the Tipperary Fleadh Cheoil over the past few years, none more so than the 2018 Fleadh hosted by Killeigh branch and held in Templemore, which was such a success.

Ormond CCÉ have hosted the Fleadh on numerous occasions, most recently in 2013 and 2014, when it was held in the village of Ballina. And it was due to the success of those two Fleadhanna, that the Ormond branch committee have decided to return to this beautiful village on the banks of the River Shannon.

On Thursday evening last, a group of volunteers met to discuss the setting up of the 2019 committee. Bord an Contae was represented by An Treoirí Gaeilge Donnacha Ó Cinnéide, Runaí Bairbre Ní Fhearghail and Cisteoir Paul McPartlin and the group set to work, nominating an organising committee and laying plans for the Fleadh. The committee will work in tandem with Bord an Contae and was elected as follows: Cathaoirleach - Tom Boland; Leas-cathaoirleach – Brendan Quinn; Runái – Marie Moylan; Cisteoir – Pascal Gray; PRO – Jane Seymour; Coiste members – Deirdre Scanlon, Bróna Moriarty. The group are looking forward to working with the local school, organisations and businesses to ensure the Fleadh is a success.

The Fleadh will take place in Ballina from Sunday May 19th to Sunday May 26th 2019. An official launch will take place following Scoil Fonn is Amránaíocht on April 27th 2019.

The inaugural Comóradh Pat Swan traditional music festival was held in Cashel over the weekend and was a great success – a fitting tribute to Pat, who was a stalwart of traditional music in Tipperary for so long along with his wife Nóra Butler Swan. The Friday night concert in Brú Boru was full to capacity and there was a great attendance for the workshops on Saturday morning.
