Foróige meetings in Ballycommon

The Muintir na Tíre Hall in Ballycommon has been the home of two Foróige clubs over the last three years.

With the hard work of a team of leaders and fantastic members, the clubs have been going from strength to strength. The clubs have been engaged in citizenship projects, outdoor pursuits and a variety of inclusive activities in the hall. The members and leaders have been building skills, reliance and confidence.

The value of the club to the young people of Ballycommon and the surrounding areas has been immeasurable. Young people and leaders have enjoyed the time they have dedicated to the clubs. The many activities the clubs have engaged in last year include: arts and crafts, Zumba, yoga, pottery, X Factor night, open mic night, Dragon's Den, indoor hockey, board games, movie night, boxercise, bake sale and many more. Day trips that we have previously gone on too have been outdoor education centres, cinema, the Foróige youth music festival Hype held in Longford, and  jump lanes.
The younger club is for young people 10 to 12 years old and the older club is 12 and over.

The Junior club is looking for new leaders to join the team that currently exists. We have a number of people involved; however the club is looking for a leader who might be interested in leading the experience for the members.

The Senior club is looking for volunteers to join the older members' leaders team. The older club is entering a period of development and the leaders and members have been planning changes to the club.

We are also looking for volunteers who may be interested in technology as the clubs are actively looking at developing a STEM aspect to the club's activities starting with robotics. Foróige has a new programme to roll out STEM to all clubs in Foróige in partnership with Google and Camara. This will develop a new chapter to all clubs. Ballycommon Foróige Club are interested in getting involved in this aspect and are seeking volunteers who may have a background or an active interest in STEM. This year we will be seeking parental input and support.

Leaders are calling a meeting of all members, parents and interested adults at 8pm on Monday next, October 22nd, in the Muintir na Tíre hall. The aim of the meeting will be to inform everyone of the plans ahead, register members and gain support from parents and adults.

Members and leaders are looking forward to another exciting and fun-filled Foróige year. For further information, please contact Declan on 087-2114404 or Brid on 086-2043599.
