Enjoyable memorial hike in the 'Mines

A group of hillwalkers set out from Silvermines village on Saturday September 29th in perfect conditions for the O'Brien memorial hiking challenge.

There was an was an international flavour to the group on this 7.5-hour demanding hiking adventure, as we were joined on the challenge by four First Data staff who were experiencing a memorable day of hillwalking on the Silvermines hills. Participants first climbed to the top of the Silvermines Ridge, then up the north face of Keeper Hill and down by the side of the Eagles Nest and straight up onto the Silvermines Ridge once again.

Returning via Silvermines Ridge once again, we went through the Magcobar mine and returned to our starting point at Tom Hickey's pub, where we were greeted by the warmth of a lovely open fire. There we indulged ourselves in well-earned refreshments with many cups of tea, delicious sandwiches, lovely cool apple pie, and a lot more stronger stuff. It was one of those delightful days on the  Silvermines hills that will live on forever in our memories.

The challenge registration fee of €618 will be donated to the Medical Missionary of Mary work on a health outreach programme to remote villages in Tanzania, Africa. A special thanks to Tom Hickey for taking such great care of all participants and supporters.
