Ormond Historical Society visit to Tyone graveyard

In association with National Heritage Week, Ormond Historical Society will conduct a walk around Tyone graveyard on Monday August 20th, commencing at 7pm.

The event is open to all and is free of charge. Come along and discover the history of Nenagh's oldest monastic site and hospital.

Hear about some of the people who contributed to making the town what it is today and some of the families who emigrated from Nenagh and had an input in world affairs.

Learn about an IRA man who became one of the earliest recruits in An Garda Síochána and his connection to the Head Constable of the RIC in Waterford.

Hear about the man who had the distinction of being the first citizen of Nenagh to have his picture in the pages of the Nenagh Guardian and how he came to be buried twice.

These and many other stories, including that of Denis 'Sonny' O'Neill - the man reputed to have shot Michael Collins - will form the backdrop of a history stretching back over 800 years. The tour will be guided by OHS President John Flannery.
