Farm Safety Awareness event in Tipp

IFA North Tipperary Chairperson Imelda Walsh is encouraging farm families to attend a Farm Safety Awareness event organised by North Tipperary IFA this Monday (July 30th) in Mid-Tipp Co Mart, Thurles from 11am to 2pm.

Imelda Walsh said the event was designed to build on the awareness gained from Farm Safety Week, which has just finished. “The Week was very successful in focusing on best practice on farms. Unfortunately, there were three farm fatalities last week so it is important to keep driving the message home.”

The Irish Heart Foundation will be present. Two nurses will be available on the mobile health unit to provide free Blood Pressure Checks and heart health information. “The one-to-one advice offered by the nurse is a vital part of this check. High blood pressure which is a major cause of stroke and heart attack is one of the most prevalent risk factors in the population and one which once identified is manageable, thereby reducing risk.”

Peter Gohery Farm Accident Survivor from Galway IFA will discuss practical ways that farmers can reduce risks on farms.

Red Cross will give CPR and First Aid demo in the event of a serious accident e.g. PTO & other scenarios.

A speaker on Health ‘n Wellbeing will discuss managing stress, coping with depression and the useful support services available for farm families e.g Pieta House, Samaritans, Farm and Rural Stress Helpline.

All farm families are welcome, as a great opportunity for children to attend and get tips and advice on how to reduce risks during the busy summer holidays.
