Local events in Tipperary Festival of Science

Ever wondered why we experience fear? #StopAndAsk questions you have always wanted to know the answer to this Science Week.

The people of Tipperary are being asked to #StopAndAsk questions about the world around them as part of Science Foundation Ireland’s national Science Week 2017.  Taking place from November 12th – 19th, Science Week provides people across the county with the opportunity to ask questions, explore the science in their everyday lives and discover how science explains the world around us. During the week, Tipperary Science Festival will deliver a programme of free public engagement events, open days, science tours, talks, exhibitions, shows, workshops and school visits.
 
For Science Week 2017, Science Foundation Ireland and the Tipperary Science Festival are calling on people to #StopAndAsk questions that they’ve always wanted to know about the world around them. Whether it’s: “why do I experience fear?”; “how can I kick the perfect penalty kick?”; or even “is there any truth to the ‘sunny south east’?” – the people of Tipperary are being encouraged to ask their question on social media. To join the conversation, use the hashtag #StopAndAsk and tweet, Instagram or Facebook your question. Science Week 2017, through Science Foundation Ireland and its partners and the science community, will aim to answer the best questions throughout the week.
 
Dr Ruth Freeman, Director of Strategy and Communications at Science Foundation Ireland said: “Science Week is a brilliant opportunity to explore the world of science and technology that surrounds us all, and is playing an increasing role in our lives.  Science helps us to ask and answer the questions, solve the problems and to consider what is next. This Science Week, we want as many people as possible to get involved and ask the questions that matter to them - the questions that have always made them curious!  We’re calling on everyone to take part in the #StopAndAsk conversation and to attend the events taking place in your county, or nationwide.”
 
Some of the Tipperary Science Week events not to be missed include:

Electrical circuits, engineering and Robotics and Activities - Foróige Youth Space, Banba Square, Townhall, Nenagh at 5.30pm to 7pm on Tuesday November 14th.

Brown Bag Activities for 10 – 13-year olds - Foróige Youth Space, Banba Square, Townhall, Nenagh at 3.30pm to 4.30pm on Tuesday November 14th.

STEM Family Day around Thurles: Fantastic Physics Show - MIC, St. Patrick’s Campus, Thurles at 3pm to 4pm on Saturday 18th.
