Cllr Michael Smith

Significant investment in Roscrea

The commencement last week of a major resurfacing of the Templemore road highlights the significant investment made in Roscrea recently.

Work along a 1.2km stretch of road from the McDonald's roundabout to Villa Marie nursing home was due to begin on Tuesday of last week.

Local councillor Michael Smith (FF) told last week's meeting of Roscrea Community Development Council that the work is to be complete by the end of November. The scheme will include a new footpath outside Kennedy Park and will also deal with drainage in the area.

Cllr Smith said the €400,000 scheme is the only major investment in Tipperary by Transport Infrastructure Ireland this year. Following the recent job at Camblin, it completes a road renewal scheme in Roscrea going back over the last five years.

Coupled with the new town signage strategy, which is joint-funded by central government and the local authority, Cllr Smith pointed out that more than half a million euro is being invested in Roscrea. He added that TII has been asked to provide traffic calming measures at Tullaskeagh.
