Future of Roscrea hotel

Tipperary Co Council’s position on the future of the Grants/Damer Court Hotel site in Roscrea was reaffirmed at its May meeting.

The council received an allocation of €150,000 from the Department of Rural and Community Development for a study on the feasibility of reopening the site as a community hotel. But it was made clear earlier this year that the council had no intention of purchasing the site.

Local councillor Shane Lee raised the matter at last week’s meeting of the council. He asked if there had been any further correspondence from the department, saying people in Roscrea are always wanting to know what is happening with the hotel, which has been closed since 2013.

“Where exactly are we?” Cllr Lee asked.

Director of Services Brian Beck said the feasibility report was completed and the department indicated that it is up to whatever party is interested in the site to take the next step.

“We are not in a position to purchase that building,” Mr Beck said. He made the point that there are funding streams available to anyone interested in developing the site.
