Funding boost for Tipp housing
Fianna Fáil TD for North Tipperary and Northwest Kilkenny, Ryan O’Meara has today confirmed that Thurles Lions Trust is to receive almost €3.5 million under the Department of Housing to deliver ten one-bed studio apartments in Thurles.
These 10 own-door apartments by the local Approved Housing Body, Thurles Lions Trust, will provide accommodation to persons who require support for disabilities and with mental health difficulties. The funding is for a new build development of Phase 2 of Matthew Bourke House.
Deputy O’Meara said: “I am delighted to confirm almost €3.5 million has been signed off on by my Fianna Fáil colleague, Minister James Browne for Thurles Lions Trust under his Department’s Capital Assistance Scheme.
“This funding means that 10 brand-new apartments can be provided by the Thurles Lions Trust for people with disabilities and mental health difficulties in Thurles.
“This project is the second phase of Matthew Bourke House and is being built behind the existing property at Gortataggart, which itself provides 14 self-contained apartments for vulnerable adults who were at risk of homelessness.
“We all know the incredible work that Thurles Lions Trust does in the area in providing homes for those in need. This funding will allow them to continue to increase their work within the community. I would like to congratulate them on their hard work and wonderful achievements over many years to date, including in working to secure this funding for Thurles.
“I am very grateful to Minister James Browne for working on this with me and for informing me tonight that he has officially signed off on almost €3.5 million for homes for Thurles.”
