A remarkable teaching career

One of the longest-serving teachers at St Mary's Secondary School, Newport, has completed a remarkable career on her retirement.

After almost three and a half decades teaching at the school, Ms Elise Mullally, has taught at the school through a period of enormous change in education at the centre and the facilities for the students.

She has worked with several principals of the school, an enormous increase in the size of the school and the range of subjects taught as enrolment increased to around 740 students attending the day classes.

Throughout her long teaching career she ensured herself to the school principals, teachers, and students alike and after 34 years the time has come to retire leaving a job 'very well done' and dedication which has been appreciated by all.

She was the recipient of a presentation recently in appreciation of her dedicated teaching service and the contribution it made to the careers and future of thousands of students who passed through her classes.

Students (past and present), colleagues and the wider school community extend their sincere thanks and best wishes to Elise for many happy, healthy years ahead.

The presentation was made by Kevin Cusack, Principal, St Mary's Secondary School and also present were Tom Hayes, Líadha Hayes, Pat O'Toole (former principal).
