Sr Noreen O’Rourke. RIP.

Death of Sr Noreen O’Rourke

Killaloe Parish updates

The Killaloe parish was saddened this week at the death of Sr Noreen O’Rourke who spent over 40 years actively ministering to the people of Killaloe and was among the last five Sisters of Mercy in Killaloe Convent.

Sr Noreen, a native of Birdhill, first established links with Killaloe as a student in St Anne’s Secondary almost eight decades ago. After completing her Leaving Certificate, Noreen entered the Convent of Mercy in Ennis, qualified as a Home Economics teacher, and spent her early teaching years in Coláiste Mhuire, Ennis, and in St Joseph’s, Spanish Point. In 1970, she returned to her alma mater in Killaloe where she taught in St Anne’s Secondary School, and Community College until retirement.

Following her retirement, she continued ministering to the people of the parish as a pastoral worker, generously giving of her time and talents. She pioneered many initiatives including the Senior Citizens Party and annual summer holiday; the actively retired pilgrimage to Holycross; the weekly Killaloe Village Market; the Bereavement Mass, to mention but a few.

She will be fondly remembered as a hard-working, kind and compassionate member of the Sisters of Mercy, who served the people of the parish for 113 years. May her goodness and kindness go before her and earn for her a place of light, happiness and peace in her eternal home.

BEREAVEMENT MASS

The annual Bereavement Mass will take place in St Flannan’s Church, Killaloe, on this Thursday, November 13, at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend. A special invitation is extended to all families in the parish who were bereaved this year.
