Performers in this year’s Christmas With the Stars event - Edwina Morrissey.

Christmas With the Stars is back!

Once again, Nenagh AFC is hosting its very popular seasonal concert ‘Christmas With The Stars’ on Saturday, December 10, at 8pm in the Scouts Hall. Having in the past chosen songs that were Christmas hits or seasonal favourites, this year’s concert has as its theme ‘The Greatest Hits Show’. Some of the finest songs ever recorded will be performed by members of Nenagh AFC along with some of Nenagh’s local talent. ‘My Way’, ‘Proud Mary’, ‘Mack The Knife’ from the 1950s and ’60s are contrasted with music from Queen, The Spice Girls and One Direction. Country and Irish favourites include Johnny Cash’s ‘Ring of Fire’, ‘Galway Girl’ from Mundy and Joe Dolan’s legendary ‘Good Looking Woman’.

This concert has something for everyone. 22 classics spanning 70 years is a night not to be missed and all in a good cause. Nenagh AFC is kick-starting its fundraising for a major upgrade of its astroturf facility, which is expected to cost in the region of €200,000. The club is hoping to sell 400 tickets to have a sell-out performance, seeking the support of all players, past players and the parents of our juvenile players. Along with this, many local businesses have once again supported the concert by taking ads to be displayed on the night. Allied to this, the club is seeking to expand its lotto by asking all families associated with to club to join on a yearly basis by cash or direct debit.

This will also provide much needed revenue to advance the astroturf project along with the guarantee of repayments on a substantial loan. Forms will be distributed through the different squads in the coming weeks and the club’s aim is to reach 500 members over the next few months. The refurbished astroturf will provide a top class training surface for years to come, especially during the winter months.

This annual concert has provided much needed revenue to run the club and to complete the driveway for the safety of all users of Brickfields. With a small but dedicated committee the club has gone from strength to strength, catering for three adult and numerous juvenile teams, along with its very popular academy for 4–8-year-olds. The club is again indebted to Nenagh Choral Society Ltd for the use of the Scouts Hall and the support of several of its members to stage the concert.

This is a concert not to be missed and, with a bar licence on the night, will be an ideal start to the holiday season for individuals, families and work parties. Pre-concert entertainment is provided once again by Nenagh Brass Band and some local celebrity judges will add to the night with helpful comments. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.ie, at Adrian Grace’s Shoebar, at the clubhouse office or from any committee member. So, why not head along to Nenagh’s best seasonal concert for night not to be missed at the Scouts Hall on December 10.
