Nenagh AFC 1-0 Hyde Rangers

After losing their opening two games of the season, Nenagh AFC have regrouped impressively posting four wins and two draws in their last six outings.

On Sunday morning, they advanced to the second round of the FAI Junior Cup with a 1-0 win at home to Premier ‘A’ League side Hyde Rangers.

Delighted with the result, Nenagh faced a much sterner test than they might have expected from the visitors who had a couple of chances of their own to take the lead.

However, the Premier side kept their nerve and got their breakthrough on seventy minutes when Kieran O’Brien struck the all-important goal.

Newport Town 2-1 Geraldines

Two Premier Division ‘A’ sides clashed for the second time in a couple of weeks when Newport edged out Geraldines by the odd goal in three in the first round of the FAI Junior Cup on Sunday.

It was sweet revenge for Newport who lost to ‘Dines 3-2 in a recent league match.

The home side took the lead after fourteen minutes when the prolific Jay Form latched onto a ball over the top to score. Geraldines levelled the tie after the break when Conor Madden powerfully headed in his first goal of the season.

With extra time looming Darren Collins collected 25 yards out and let fly with an effort that evaded Cian O’Brien in the ‘Dines goal and when into the net off the post.
