Shannon swimmer completes challenge

Aiden Sheridan successfully completed his swim of the Shannon last weekend, becoming one of only a handful of people to overcome the 245km challenge.

It took the Ballinasloe man 15 days to swim from Dowra, Co Cavan, to Curraghbour Boat Club in Limerick, where he arrived last Friday. Aiden (43) swam half of Lough Derg in one day, Tuesday of last week.

He stopped at Ballina and spent some time at the Lakeside Hotel, where his support team parked their campervan at the side of the hotel. The Lakeside provided lunch for Aiden and the crew free of charge, and he used the leisure centre after his swim.

Aiden has so far raised €42,000 and counting for the Irish Cancer Society and East Galway and Midlands Cancer Support. His target is to raise €50,000.
