National Cycling Time Trial Championships in Nenagh

The Cycling Time Trial National Championships takes place this Thursday, 23rd June on the old N7 between Nenagh and Birdhill, with 63 riders set to compete across eight categories, hosted by North Tipperary Wheelers.

The race will commence from the former Five Alley Pub on the old N7 Nenagh to Limerick Road along the cycleway. Cyclists will head out towards Limerick until the Birdhill Roundabout where they will turn left for a short but sharp climb up the ramp to the M7 Junction 27 flyover before going round the roundabout, back down to the Birdhill roundabout and back to the finish line where it all stared at the Five Alley.

In total the distance covered will be 32.13km with an elevation gain of 176 metres.

The action gets underway at 6:30pm H1-H5 Handcycles followed by the C1-C5 solo and Tandem events. The line-up includes 2020 Paralympic cyclists Gary O’Reilly, Richael Timothy and 2022 European Time Trial Champions Ronan Grimes and Katie-George Dunlevy as well as 2016 Paralympian Declan Slevin.

The Senior Women’s Time Trial will be hotly contested with Joanna Patterson returning in a bid to defend the title she won last year. She will face stiff competition from 2020 Time Trial Champion and last year’s runner up Eve McCrystal and pursuit specialist on the national track squad, Kelly Murphy.

Reigning Time Trial champion Ryan Mullen and other pro riders including Eddie Dunbar are on the start list, however it is unclear if these riders will be competing. Marcus Christie will be hoping to improve on his third place finish last year but with other riders including Ben Healy on the start list, winning a position on the podium will be no easy task.

Follow the action across Cycling Ireland’s social media channels and watch highlights on TG4 on the Cycling Show on Saturday, 2nd July at 3.00pm.
