Sarah on Operation Transformation

Mum of four is thrilled with her selection on popular TV programme

A local mother of four children has been named among the five leaders to take part in the new series of the RTÉ hit series, Operation Transformation, which began on RTÉ 1 last Wednesday.

Sarah O’ Connor Ryan appeared totally shocked and overwhelmed when one of the fitness experts on the programme, Karl Henry, called at her front door in the dark to inform her that she had made it on to the highly popular series of the health and fitness programme.

Sarah, a singer and daughter of Portroe-based auctioneer Brendan O’Connor and his wife Teresa, could scarcely believe what she was hearing.

As she opened the door of her home and saw Henry standing outside she put her two hands up to her face in utter surprise. “I cannot believe it. I'm so happy - thank you so much,” she exclaimed, barely managing to keep her tears at bay.

“I am genuinely thrilled and I can’t wait to do it,” Sarah told Henry as she looked forward to her first appearance on the programme on Wednesday night.

Henry indicated that Sarah was very much an obvious choice to be selected as a leader for this year’s series. “You were brilliant on assessment day,” he told her.

“We were so impressed with all the work you put in and the honesty you brought to it. You are going to be an inspirational leader.”

He told Sarah that as “a busy mum of four” viewers around the country were going to really relate to her. The year 2022 was going to be a time when she became well and healthy, he said, telling her she had “a massive following” behind her.

“Thank you so much. I’m overwhelmed, I’m thrilled,” replied Sarah, as she was hugged at her front door by two of her small children.

“I am going to do my absolute best, I promise you that,” she told Henry, as she wiped away tears.

See Sarah and the others who will undergo a weigh-in on this Wednesday’s programme before undertaking on an arduous weight loss schedule over the course of the series set for her and the other four leaders by the show’s fitness and health gurus.

Among those cheering Sarah on will be her 91-year-old grandmother Joan Larkin, who with her late husband Dan, a renowned traditional musician, owned the well-known music pub, Larkin’s in Garrykennedy, for many years.
