Nenagh Lions Club work continues

Despite the very serious impact of the Covid virus on individuals, families and society in general leading to lockdowns, travel restrictions and the curtailment of people’s freedom and movement, the work of Nenagh Lions members continues apace.

The members are forever ready to help the most vulnerable in our society, whether assisting with basic provisions, financial assistance or other areas of need.

While their usual monthly meetings may have changed with the regulations surrounding the Covid restrictions, the new reality of Zoom contact enables Lions members to maintain contact with each other and provide help to people experiencing serious personal or family problems.

At one such Zoom meeting held quite recently requests for assistance from a community based health organisation for a number of families was agreed upon. In one instance the help related to basic food sustenance while a second case involved assistance for family members with serious abuse issues.

The members also agreed to postpone and defer the annual Charity Golf Outing at Nenagh Golf Club, usually held in the month of May, to a later date, possibly September, subject to Covid restrictions being relaxed. The proceeds from their annual golf event are usually distributed between local charities involved in community based work.

A number of dates for next year’s Christmas Food Appeal have been agreed upon and a date for your diary will involve a possible walk/climb on June 20th subject to Covid restrictions being relaxed.

Progress on a number of other items discussed at the recently held Zoom meeting awaits a further relaxation of restrictions relating to Covid. In the meantime Nenagh Lions members appeal to the general public to “stay safe” and understand that where serious needs arise help is only a call away.
