Call for action on derelict building

Local councillor Hughie McGrath has called for an investigation of the derelict building that was once intended as a drive-through restaurant at Stereame, Nenagh.

In a notice of motion at this week’s meeting of Nenagh Municipal District, Cllr McGrath called on the council’s Environment section to carry out an investigation on the building. “As there is huge potential for this retail park, this building in the middle of the site is giving a very bad image to the overall site,” Cllr McGrath said.

He was informed that an inspection has been carried out and a report forwarded to the Environment section for follow-up under Derelict Site legislation. Nenagh Municipal District would continue to liaise with the Environment section on the matter with a view to achieving a resolution.

Cllr McGrath described Stereame as a “vital part of Nenagh” and he hoped action would be taken shortly. “It's just sitting there with fencing around it,” he said of the derelict building. “We need to deal with it.”

Cllr Séamie Morris appreciated that such problems are not easily resolved as there are often difficulties establishing ownership.
