Declan Carr

Carr confirmed as new Tipp Ladies Senior Football Manager

Tipperary LGFA has voted in favour of appointing Declan Carr as their new Senior Football manager at a virtual meeting of the board on Monday night last.

The Holycross/Ballycahill clubman’s backroom team will include Coach – Paul Creed, Selectors – Sarah Jane Darmody (FLO), Clare Lambert, Strength & Conditioning Coaches – Paddy Lowry & Colm Bonnar (Consulting)

Speaking following his confirmation, the former Tipperary All Ireland winning Senior Hurling captain was delighted to have his appointment confirmed.

“I am delighted with the opportunity to build on the solid foundations that have been established in Tipperary Ladies Football in recent years,” he said.

“I am really looking forward to getting started. I have to say I have been like a child before Christmas looking at a gift and knowing that I am not allowed to open it yet.”

Speaking about the task in front of him which is to firmly establish Tipperary as a senior team, Carr wants to bring a holistic approach to his management.

“My mission statement is for Tipperary ladies is to be best version of what and who they are. I want them all to be better players for both themselves and for the team,” he said.

“I can’t wait to meet the girls. I have been watching their matches and I can see their energy and their attitude.

“There is nothing that needs to be fixed with this team, nothing is broken. I believe they just need another leg up in terms of strength and endurance. They have proved they can compete at the top tier it is now just about achieving consistent performances.”

With the Level 5 Covid-19 restrictions in place, the Declan Carr era will take time to get up and running and he won’t have long as like the GAA, the Lidl National League division 1 was due to start at the end of February with the division divided into two regions with the Premier County groups with All-Ireland finalists Dublin and Cork, as well as neighbours Waterford.

However, Carr welcomes playing teams of the highest standard and is looking forward to the challenges ahead.
