Successful A Sportsman’s Dream’ Junior Tennis Open 2018

Last week it was the turn of the juniors at Nenagh Lawn Tennic Club when the annual Junior Open Week, sponsored by ‘A Sportsman’s Dream’, Nenagh, took place.

Tournament entries were well up on last year, with representation from a big number of clubs, including Catholic Institute, Monaleen, Tralee, Crosshaven, Argideen Vale (Cork), Tralee, Lattin, Larkspur, Puckane, Donnybrook (Dublin), Castlebar and Claremorris, in addition to many local entrants.

In superb weather conditions we saw lots of fine tennis in events in age groups from U9 to U18 and it was great to see bigger numbers, notably in the older age boys events.

In the boys events, among those to impress were Fernando Garcia Seeber (Larkspur) who won U14 Singles and Doubles with Paddy Bradley, and Dillan Murray who two events (U16 Singles and Mixed (with Nenagh’s Anna O’Keeffe).

The girls were equally impressive all round with Nenagh’s Alicia White much to the forefront. Alicia won U14 Singles (over Lauren Spain) and was a runner-up to Ellie Spain in U16 Singles final and also a runner-up (with Emma Williams) to Avril Dooley/Lauren Spain in U14 Doubles.
