Success for Denis Hogan at rescheduled Kilbeggan

Denis Hogan continued his winner-a week strike rate when Golden Poet ran out a well supported winner of the two mile 80-109 handicap hurdle at Tuesdays rescheduled Kilbeggan meeting, in the hands of the trainer himself.

Due to take place the previous Sunday, the meeting had to be called off due to a burst water main but the original declarations stood and in spite of a decent attendance it fell far short of that expected for a Sunday programme.

Previously under the care of Andrew McNamara for whom he won at the venue a couple of seasons ago, Golden Poet had run well at the venue on his most recent appearance and was certainly not winning out of turn.

Settled behind the leaders early on, the six-year-old improved to hit the front after the second last flight but pecked badly at the final hurdle and almost dislodged Hogan, however he recovered well ran all the way to the line where he had a length and a half to spare over Konig Hill.

Returning to a rousing reception, the winner which is owned by a local syndicate, including a member of the racecourse committee landed some nice wagers and on this evidence can be placed to further success.
