Gem will seek More after Limerick sprint success

Improving from a debut outing before the turn of the year, Denis Collins’s Pallasmore Gem (Definate Opinion/Grenanstown Lady) found the necessary progress when opening the weekend action in winning style at Limerick Greyhound Stadium as he emerged a dominant winner over the sprint distance.

A November 2015 whelp, he made a belated first public appearance in late December when displaying plenty of promise in a close-up third place finish having suffered crowding at the opening bend. Leaving a good impression, an opportunity to contest in S9 grade over 350 yards on Friday would offer clear winning claims and following an adept break from Trap 3, he duly converted in cosy fashion.

A half length off the lead upon exiting traps, he immediately began to outpace his rivals with superior dash on the run to the bend. Extending to two lengths, he already appeared to have the race settled but still displaying signs of greenness in just his second start, a ponderous gallop at the turn allowed his closest rival to reduce the deficit. Remaining in front however, Gem never appeared likely to relinquish his winning chance and galloping strongly to the line he retained a comfortable one length advantage where it mattered.
