Parks Turn Pink for Great Pink Run

Thousands of families around Ireland are impacted by a breast cancer diagnosis every year and to show their support, it is expected that over 8,000 women, men and children will take part in the Great Pink Run with Avonmore Slimline Milk this September.  Taking place over two days (Saturday, 9th September in the Phoenix Park, Dublin and Sunday, 10th September in Kilkenny Castle Park), many of those participating in the 7th year of the 10K challenge and the 5K fun run will wear elaborate pink costumes and paint their faces to support Breast Cancer Ireland's pioneering research and awareness programmes nationally.  The charity plans to extend the run throughout Ireland to other cities in 2018.

Between 30-50% of all cancer cases are preventable according to the World Health Organisation which claims that regular physical activity and the maintenance of a healthy body weight, along with a healthy diet, can considerably reduce cancer risk.

Aisling Hurley, CEO of Breast Cancer Ireland comments “We are delighted with the success of the Great Pink Run which has gone from strength to strength, raising over €600,000 to fund our research and awareness programmes around the country. Over the years, the sea of pink has grown and we felt now was the time to bring the Great Pink Run around the country. With the support of our long-time supporters and sponsors including Glanbia, Beacon Hospital, Irish Life Health, Aut Even Hospital Kilkenny, Vincent and Beatty Solicitors, Its4Women, Alkermes and Dunnes Stores, we can ensure that 100% of funds raised from entries and individual sponsorship go directly to fund our ongoing effortsâ€

Group Corporate Director of Communications and Public Affairs at Glanbia, Mark Garrett says “Good nutrition and lifestyle balance are widely recognised as helping to protect against a variety of chronic health conditions and so Avonmore Slimline Milk are proud to once again be the lead sponsor of Breast Cancer Ireland's Great Pink Run. We have witnessed the great camaraderie and excitement on the day and many of us in Glanbia are already in training!â€

Unfortunately, many people know someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer and the Great Pink Run is an opportunity to come out and show support by running, walking or jogging for them.
