Kevin McCarthy prepares to shoot home Toomevara's first goal

Toomevara survived a last quarter flourish by Eire Og Annacarty to take full points from their County Senior Hurling Championship tie on Sunday, a win that puts them in a commanding position in the group.

With every reason to be pleased at having negotiated a difficult hurdle in this extremely competitive group, Toomevara will be concerned at a last quarter taper that could have cost them dearly. Perhaps they felt that with an eight points lead going into the last fifteen minutes, they were safe but Eire Og hit them with six unanswered points in that period and it took a quality stop from goalie Darren Cuddihy in the last minute to deny the West side a winning goal.

Nine first half wides will also be a concern for Toome as they get down to the business end of the championship but that said, manager Denis Kelly and coach Tommy Dunne will be very pleased with the progress their side is making on their return to Dan Breen Cup competition.
