A Liam Moloney goal midway through the second-half enabled Holycross/Ballycahill to find the extra-gear needed to overcome a gallant Lorrha challenge on Sunday.

Moloney’s strike was the sixth ball to rattle the net in a match that produced some scintillating attacking hurling and looked at one point like it might deliver the shock of the weekend, as Lorrha pushed the competition favourites to the pin of their collar.

Early scoring exchanges between Lorrha marksman Brian Hogan and a potent Holycross full-forward line, set the trend for what was to come, with the sides level at 0-4 a piece after ten minutes.

It was that inside line who inflicted most of the damage for Holycross, primarily the almost identical Woods brothers, each of whom was sporting a red helmet and a canny scoring ability.

Lorrha’s statement of intent was made clear midway through the first-half, with two well-taken goals in as many minutes by Noel Hogan and Christopher Fogarty propelling them into a 2-6 to 0-6 lead with just over 16 minutes gone.
