Although the absence of both Michael Breen and Steven O’Brien had grave consequences for Ballina, there seemed little any team could do to stop a dazzling Moycarkey/Borris display on Sunday afternoon, as the mid-side slammed the door on Ballina’s championship ambitions and gave a warning about their own.

Moycarkey’s County Under 21 'B' success last year served as an indicator of greater things, and sure enough it was the star performer of that campaign corner-forward Anthony McKelvey, who helped to lead the line up front. His 19th minute goal effectively ended the game as a contest, although some would argue it had been over long before then.

The 14-time County senior champions bolted from the blocks, hitting five unanswered points in the first five minutes, all of which were delivered by their prolific full-forward line of McKelvey, Niall Heffernan and Kieran Morris.
