Dunne proud of Tipp’s performance as they await their fate

Tipperary manager Tommy Dunne was justifiably proud of his side’s performance following a hard-fought victory over a strong Clare minor side on Sunday.

It was a great win. We are hugely delighted with it considering the disappointment of last Sunday. We knew this side had great character and great skill but they really fought tremendously well in the second half,” he said.

Regarding Tipp’s opening half performance the Toomevara man agreed that Tipperary had squandered a number of opportunities.

I was happy enough with the way we started the game and we created a good few scoring chances and we needed to be taking a lot more of them obviously but you have to remember lads these lads are very young players. We got scores we had no right to get and we missed scores that we probably should have gotten.

We dipped off a bit in the second quarter of the game and Clare looked very dangerous and they had the upper hand and started dominating our puck-outs so half-time came at a reasonably good juncture for us.

It’s our fourth Sunday in a row and we were conscious of that and John Campion who had three magnificent games so far tired a bit and Jack Morrissey made a huge difference in the middle of the field when he came on.

Max Hackett in midfield had a very quiet game by his standards last week but it was a different story today, so they are kind of the unpredictable things you are dealing with. But, overall in our second half performance I couldn’t have asked for a lot more from them,” he said.
