Developmental Under 20's look to upset Cork

CORK v TIPPERARY

Pairc Ui Rinn, Cork

Saturday 16th June

Tipperary make their bow in the inaugural Under 20 Football Championship when they face Cork in the Munster quarter final this Saturday evening.

The new competition while structured similarly to the old under 21 championship but has one major change in what if an under 20 has played with the senior team in the championship, he is unable to line out at under 20.

However, that hasn't impacted on Tipperary as there are no under 20's on Liam Kearns senior squad which as meant manager David Power has had uninterrupted preparations with a panel of 32 players put together over the last six months or so.

Plans began an early as last November with an under 19 inter-divisional competition developed to trawl the county for talent, with four of the panel coming from the North in Jack Delahunty & Colin Floyd (Newport), Conor McCarthy (Nenagh Eire Og) and Dan O'Meara (Kiladangan).

However, a long term approach has been taken with this squad revealed selector Damian Lawlor.

David Power decided to take a long term approach with this so a large number of our panel are not only eligible for next year but also the year after,” he said.
