Tipperary GAA Scene for 30 May
MUNSTER SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
If ever there is a future case to be made in retaining the Munster Senior Hurling Championship, the latest instalment in the rich tradition of Tipperary and Cork rivalry should be high on the agenda. Sunday's match had everything that embodies what it means to take part in such thrilling fare. While not a classic due to the contrasting halves, a thrilling climax was created by Tipperary warriors who showed tremendous perseverance and fortitude to stem the haemorrhage of scores against them in the first half. In doing so they produced a second half display which was one of the greatest comebacks in recent times to share the spoils after an enthralling contest. The final score read Tipperary 2-20 Cork 1-23 with the Tipp goals coming from Jason Forde (Silvermines) and Noel McGrath (Loughmore-Castleiney)
Congratulations to three championship debutants for Tipperary on Sunday led by Jake Morris (Nenagh Éire Óg) who showed tremendous awareness and maturity in slotting over the equalising point deep into added time. Ger Browne (Knockavilla-Donaskeigh Kickhams) and Paudie Feehan (Killenaule) were the other two players getting a taste of championship action.
Congratulations also to John McGrath (Loughmore-Castleiney), who was named Littlewoods Ireland Man of the Match.
Best wishes to Michael Breen (Ballina) for a speedy recovery after picking up an ankle injury in training last week. We also send best wishes to other panel members coming back to full fitness after recent injury concerns.
With little time to rest in a gruelling schedule, Tipperary head back to the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday next June 3rd, to play Waterford in round 3 of the Munster Hurling Championship at 4pm.
Tipp are now off the mark on one point with Waterford who are like Tipp after their opening round yet to register a point on the table. Also, similar to Tipp they will play four games without a break.
There have been 43 championship games between Tipperary and Waterford. Tipp are firmly in command on 32 wins (along with walk overs in 1889, 1895 and 1922), while Waterford have 10 victories. There was one draw in 1933.
The last championship meeting between the sides was the 2016 Munster Final also in the Gaelic Grounds as Tipperary stormed to victory in an unforgettable year for the county.

Tickets are on pre purchase price of €20 for stand tickets and €15 for terrace tickets. This price is available until midnight on the Saturday. The match day price will increase by €5, so stand tickets bought on match day will be €25 and terrace tickets will be €20. Juvenile tickets (U-16) will be €5 no matter when they are purchased. Students and OAP's will receive a concession of €5.
MUNSTER SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Commiserations to the Tipperary footballers as they exited the Munster Championship following their semi-final loss to Cork last Saturday night, 1-17 to 0-9 the final score. Everyone shares in the disappointment of the team as their excellent season to date was deserving of more.
It will be Saturday, June 23rd before Liam Kearns' side see championship action again as they await the draw for round 2 of the Football All-Ireland Senior Championship.
MUNSTER MINOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
The Tipperary minor hurlers opened proceedings in splendid fashion in Semple Stadium on Sunday as they powerfully saw off the Cork challenge in round 2 of the Electric Ireland Munster Hurling Minor Championship to put themselves right back in the competition. On a score line of 4-15 to 1-14, Tommy Dunne's side played with equal skill and flair as their manager did in his glittering career and in doing so were fully deserving of their victory. Goals from James Devaney (Borris-Ileigh), Seán Hayes (Kiladangan), Kevin Maher (Borris-Ileigh) and Devon Ryan (Knockavilla-Donaskeigh Kickhams) added significantly to Tipperary's cause.
It's back to the Gaelic Grounds next Sunday to play Waterford in round 3 and throw-in is at 2pm.

MUNSTER SENIOR CAMOGIE FINAL
Commiserations to the Tipperary senior camogie team who lost out to Cork in the Munster Final in Páirc Uí Chaoimh last Saturday on a score line of 0-19 to 0-6.
LADIES FOOTBALL
Congratulations to Shane Ronayne Tipperary ladies football manager who received Manager of the Month for May from the Ladies Gaelic football at a function in Croke Park last week. Shane is also chairman of county Tipperary Post Primary schools committee.
Congratulations also to Maria Curley, Samantha Lambert, Caoimhe Condon, Jennifer Grant and Aishling Moloney who were named on the Lidl NFL Division 2 Team of the League.
SEMPLE STADIUM
With Munster championship matches held in a very short space of time of each other on Saturday and Sunday last, a special word of thanks to all Semple Stadium staff led by grounds man David Hanley as they had the Field of Legends in pristine condition as always on both occasions.

Well done to Fergal Horgan (Knockavilla-Donaskeigh Kickhams) who refereed the Leinster Hurling Championship match between Galway and Kilkenny match last Sunday.

CELTIC CHALLENGE
In a closely fought encounter in the Celtic Challenge in Golden last Wednesday night, Cork City emerged victors over South Tipperary on a score line of Cork City 3-14 South Tipperary 1-19. The Best and Fairest award went to Killenaule's Darragh Fitzgerald. South Tipperary's next game is away to East Cork on Wednesday week, June 6th.
POST PRIMARY HURLING
Tipperary schools were to the fore last week in post primary hurling finals and congratulations go to Thurles CBS and Abbey CBS on their great success. Thurles CBS took the honours in the Rice Cup U14 final defeating Ard Scoil Ris 1-13 to 1-9 while in the Westcourt Cup U14 Abbey CBS were too strong for Lismore winning 4-12 to 1-10. Well done to both schools and their teachers for keeping the fantastic work going across the county.
NEW TIPPERARY CLUB DRAW
Congratulations to all the winners in the first draw of the new Tipperary GAA Club Draw season held in conjunction with Cashel King Cormacs club in Brosnan's Lounge, Cashel last Friday. First prize of a Skoda Karoq or €25,000 went to Roderick Clifford with Ballinahinch the promoting club and second prize of a Renault Megane or €15,000 went to Tom and Dollie O'Shea with Aherlow the promoting club.

The U16 Event is through Bord na nÓg competition only.
A specially commissioned County Final Medal will be presented to the winner of both Senior and U16 events on the day.
GAA AWARD 1 YOUTH COURSE
After having discussions with clubs and coaches over the last few months Tipperary Coaching and Games have decided to restructure the Award 1 Youth course. The objective here is to focus on a more practical approach as to when the coaches are actively coaching with your club teams from under 14 - minor level, utilizing the good weather over the summer months.
The objective here is to form a group of coaches who wish to upskill and learn from our Tutors and indeed each other; the course will be run by offering one module a month over five months. With this process coaching and games staff will visit club teams for practical tutoring sessions in workshop format along with goal setting and reviewing the course content from your club team's experiences. Only coaches on the course will be offered this assistance.
The Course will cover content such as;
-Physical fitness for the youth player.
-Technical Hurling skill improvements.
-Technical Football skill improvements.
-Decision making both on and off the ball.
-Defending and attacking concepts.
-Statistical analysis and psychological focus of youth players.
This course will be a fully certified Award 1 Youth Course. Course costs will be €50 paid prior to the starting date to ensure your booking. These courses will be run on Saturday mornings to avoid club fixtures.
