Silvermines to host memorial hurling tournament

Silvermines GAA club will host an inaugural 11-a -side hurling tournament in Dolla GAA grounds this Saturday 26th May, in memory of a former club member, Gerard Grace.

The Gerard Grace Memorial Hurling Tournament is being organised in memory of the former Silvermines player who lost his bravely borne battle with cancer on the 18th of June 2014, and will see six senior teams competing for the Gerard Grace Memorial Cup, namely Silvermines, Templederry, Burgess, Loughmore/Castleiney, Mullinahone and Portroe.

The idea for the senior hurling tournament was first mooted among a number of former team-mates of Ger’s and following consultation with the club committee it was decided to press ahead with the organisation of an annual memorial tournament in Ger’s honour.

The tournament will be played on both the main and training pitches on Dolla with two groups of three. Burgess, Templederry and Mullinahone will comprise group one while Silvermines, Portroe and Loughmore-Castleiney will comprise group 2. Matches will commence at 11.30am with the final scheduled for 3.00pm following completion of all rounds and semi-finals. Matches will be 15 minutes a half with an unlimited amount of subs allowed.

It promises to be a feast of hurling and all are invited to what promises to be a great day's action.

While there will be no entry fee on the day to the tournament a bucket collection will take place with any proceeds raised going towards raising funds for the North Tipperary hospice.
