Irish tv and munster camogie partnership brings camogie finals to the masses

Ireland’s first international TV station, Irish TV and the Munster Camogie Council have joined forces to make history this Saturday, May 16 at 4pm when the Munster Senior Camogie final will be broadcast live for the first time ever.

The showdown between reigning All-Ireland champions Cork and formidable opponents Tipperary is sure to bring much deserved exposure for the Camogie Association which is celebrating 110 years this year.

Speaking in the run up to the game James Moynihan, chairman of the Munster Council said: “We are delighted to form a new partnership with Irish TV which will see our great game beamed around the world on the historic occasion of the live broadcast of our showcase Munster senior final. Camogie now has the platform from which to build our profile, which will be provided for by this partnership.”

Irish TV has witnessed amazing growth nationally and internationally over the last 12 months. The channel, which broadcasts on Sky channel 191, Freesat 400, eVision 191, all free to air boxes and online at irishtv.ie, has now been viewed in 140 countries around the world and broadcasts into 15 million homes in Ireland and the UK alone.

“The channel’s ethos is to bring local stories to a global audience and to highlight ordinary people doing extraordinary things and camogie encapsulates that ethos perfectly. The Munster Camogie Council has considered all age levels and clubs throughout the Munster in this deal by also commissioning a new TV series on Irish TV following the Munster Final coverage,” said Munster Regional Manager, Brian Hurley.

Well known and award-winning broadcaster Oisin Langan will present the live final and will be in good company with co-presenter Anna Geary. Just last week Anna, who led the Rebel County to All-Ireland success in 2014, announced her shock retirement from inter county camogie. Camogie stalwart Therese O Callaghan and former President of the Camogie Association Aileen Lawlor will also be providing commentary and analysis throughout the game.
