Nenagh Toastmasters meet again next week

Eibhlin Maher got things rolling at our last meeting, encouraging guests to introduce themselve, noting how lovely it is to hear people say their own names.

Madeline Cleary proceeded to announce the officers of the evening: Willie Grace, Morgan Ryan, Tony Spain, Natasha Gavilovska and Helen Spillane.

Natasha’s challenge was to encouraging us to incorporate an unfamiliar word. She chose “ostentatious"; the outcome was entertaining and continued with a chain reaction of witty banter throughout the evening!

Eileen Dight delivered a delightful light-hearted speech, hoping the Olympics might open up a new category for the over 70s! Margaret Cullinan evaluated Eileen’s speech, remarking how competent Eileen is on only her second speech in Toastmasters.

Brendan O'Brien carried out a roleplay with Danny Doyle on “Delivery of bad news in the work place". Brendan showed his sensitivity and management skills in which Siobhan O'Leary gently offered Brendan ways to enhance his role play given his already expertise.

Willie Grace displayed his resourcefulness and seemed to have the knack of encouraging everyone to speak. "Was his formula an unusual mix of topics or was it his gentle persuasion behind the scenes?”  There was music to frogs to possible credit union mergers, recycling, a openess to mindfulness ending on Willie's pet cows being fed the cabbage for his dinner; it could almost have been borrowed by Christy Moore to brainstorm a new song. The evening was an outstanding success with guests contributing almost surprisingly themselves, as they felt compelled to speak on such emotive topics.

Helen Spillane, our Area 24 Director, rounded up the evening with a relaxed and easy manner, observing our skills and talents, while inspiring us to develop in all areas of Toastmasters, especially leadership .Well done and thanks to everyone.

Our next meeting is a competition night on April 3rd at the Abbey Court at 8.15pm sharp. We are expecting the standards to be extremely high!

“Why not come along and see for yourself ? Guests are always made feel very welcome!"
