Nenagh Choral Society enthralled audiences with their run of 'My Fair Lady' at the Scouts Hall last week.

Eliza's return an outstanding success!

Last Saturday evening 'My Fair Lady' bade farewell to the Scouts Hall after its third, hugely successful run for Nenagh Choral Society.

Under the direction of Greg Browne, William Cullagh, Musical Director and Stephanie Browne, Choreographer, we welcomed a cast of 38 to the stage with two of our leads taking principle roles for the first time. 18-year-old Alannah Shesgreen, a member of our society since 2007, was the perfect choice for the role of Eliza and, like Eliza, she blossomed as the season progressed.
Patrick Kelly made his debut with us from Galway Musical Society where he has many productions under his belt and showed his experience onstage in the role of Professor Higgins. Joining them we had returning to the stage Donald Swan as 'Colonel Pickering' and Gerry Scanlon as 'Alfie Doolittle'.

This year's production saw a return to 'My Fair Lady' for 10 society members with Greg Browne as Show Director, along with Donald Swan, Gerry Scanlon, Tommy Maguire, Tom Lawlor, Teddy  Morgan and Margaret McGee returning to the stage, and Una Collins, Bridget Hickey and Joan Morgan now part of our front of house team.

During the week we had several special guests in attendance. On opening night actor Patrick Bergin took his seat in our audience. On closing night we welcomed back Anne Meagher, our Eliza from the 1974 production, and Pem Stanley, Musical Director from the same year, Seamus Power, newly elected president of AIMS and Fergal Darcy, radio presenter with Today FM, and himself a member of Bravo Theatre Group. Anne, Seamus and Fergal also spoke to the cast after the final performance and offered their congratulations to the cast and crew on a job well done.

We were also very privileged to have as part of our production the original coat worn by Julie Andrews in the 1958 production in the Theatre  Royal, Drury Lane. Very few societies have had this honour over the years and we are very proud to now be among them.
While 'My Fair Lady' concludes the shows for Nenagh Choral Society's 2017/2018 season, it is not the finish of activities for us as on June 9th 2018 we present 'Strictly at the Musicals', a fundraiser for the society in which members of the society and local characters take to the stage to dance in well-known numbers from the musicals. A great night of entertainment is guaranteed so do come along and join us!
