Cllr Hughie McGrath

'Boxer' to visit Nenagh Castle

Minister of State for the Office of Public Works Kevin 'Boxer' Moran is to visit Nenagh Castle in the coming weeks.

Announcing the visit at a meeting of Nenagh Municipal District last week, Cllr Hughie McGrath (Ind) said he contacted the minister about moving ahead with “Phase 2” of the castle project. Cllr McGrath mentioned aspirations for the further development of Nenagh Castle as a visitor attraction. He also spoke of the possibility of enhancing Nenagh's “historical quarter”, including the old gaol building at the courthouse site.

Cllr McGrath said the minister agreed to visit Nenagh before end of the Dáil summer break. Minister Moran lives in Athlone and has an interest in heritage, Cllr McGrath said, hoping that the minister would be able to help with plans in Nenagh.
