Calls for car park in Borrisokane

Calls have been made for the development of a car park in Borrisokane.

Cllr Joe Hannigan (Ind) says the town will lose around 30 car parking spaces on its Nenagh side resulting from the plan to resurface the main street. He told last week's meeting of Nenagh Municipal District that a car park is needed to cover this loss. Cllr Hannigan praised the council for recent remedial works carried out on the main street.

Cllr Ger Darcy (FG) agreed that there is an opportunity to acquire property for a car park in Borrisokane. He appreciated that this would require funding but said the council should at least consider it.

Director of Services Marcus O'Connor did not feel that a car park is necessary in Borrisokane. The town is not losing 30 “legal car parking spacesâ€, he said.

Providing a car park would involve significant investment and running costs, and there is no provision for this in the current scheme. But Mr O'Connor said the council would be looking at the parking situation again once the resurfacing project is complete.
