Planning granted for enlarged supercharger station at Birdhill

Tipperary Co Council has granted conditional planning permission for an enlarged electric car supercharging station at Birdhill.

Electric car manufacturer Tesla Motors Ltd has received permission for the installation of six Tesla superchargers and 12 chargeposts at the Applegreen service station off the M7 at Birdhill.

Last March, Tesla received permission for four superchargers and eight chargeposts at the same location. In granting a new application for a larger development, the council considered that the increased number of superchargers and chargeposts would lead to a “relatively small” increase in usage.

The supercharger station will allow for the fast recharging of Tesla electric cars, free of charge to the owners. It is understood that Tesla plans to provide similar stations at other locations around the country.
