Gardaí investigate Roscrea assaults

Gardaí are investigating two separate assaults at the same location in Roscrea.

A young female was reportedly assaulted at the Ashbury halting site on Tuesday of last week. She was treated at Portlaoise hospital for injuries that are understood to be minor.

 

The following day a male was assaulted at Ashbury halting site. He too was treated for injuries in hospital.

 

Roscrea gardaí have made two arrests in relation to dangerous driving in the town. It is alleged that the two drivers were involved in aggressive driving arising from a family dispute.

 

Also in Roscrea, gardaí arrested a man on Castle St following a domestic incident at another location. There was also a burglary reported a business premises on the Dublin Road. Power tools were stolen in the raid, during which a door was extensively damaged.

 

 

 

Retailers warned over scam

 

Gardaí are warning retailers that well-organised criminals are attempting to earn money by deceiving cashiers.

 

A number of incidents have been reported in the Nenagh district whereby groups of men have attempted to confuse cashiers by seeking to exchange large denominations of notes. In one local incident, a shop was left with a deficit of €620.

 

Retailers are advised to be wary of such tactics and report any suspicious activity to the gardaí immediately.

 

 

 

Van stolen in break-in

 

A van was stolen after a house was broken into at Ballymackeogh, Newport, last Thursday.

 

The owner returned home to find the house ransacked and the van taken from the driveway. The van, a Nissan Primastar with refrigeration capacity, has not been recovered. A large number of items including cash, jewellery and electrical items were stolen from the house.

 

Another burglary was reported at Rockvale cemetery, Newport, last Tuesday week; a power washer and three strimmers were stolen.

 

Gardaí responded to an incident in Ballingarry in the early hours of Sunday last when a woman awoke to the sound of a front window being broken. There was no one at the scene when the gardaí arrived.

 

A man reported on Monday that his car was keyed outside the Kildangan GAA ground.

 

A male was arrested on suspicion of drink driving at Carney last Saturday morning. The man reportedly left the scene of a single vehicle traffic accident but was arrested a short distance away around 10.15am.

 

In Ballingarry, a man was arrested under the Public Order Act after he became abusive to gardaí at a checkpoint.

 

A small container was broken into at Nenagh Railway Station over the weekend. A number of items were taken after a lock was broken.

 

More car break-ins have also been reported in the Nenagh district in recent days. An alloy wheel was removed from an Audi A4 in Borrisokane while a radio was stolen from a car in Carrigahorig.
