Selected from 23 elegant ladies from all over the county, Sheila will now travel via “the Rose tour” to the international festival in Tralee in August. She will take part in all the parades, Rose Ball, public engagements and a private qualifying event at the festival, from which 32 Roses will be chosen to appear in the live selection broadcasts.

The night at the Anner was a great success, hosted by Ollie Turner, who had the crowd well entertained. The title of the best banner in the banner competition went to Fiona Casey and friends.

Event co-ordinator Ciarán O’Connell said: “We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Sheila. She was very popular with all the Roses and emanates the qualities of what a Rose should be, and we want to wish her the very best of luck; she will have a great year ahead.

“The night couldn’t have been such a success without our sponsors. We want to say special thanks to the team at the Anner Hotel; all Roses Hair by Mary Duffy Hair, Thurles; all Roses makeup by Róisín Kennedy, MUA; and my team who helped out on the day.

“Finally, a thank-you to Fiona O'Sullivan, the 2016 Tipperary Rose, for all the work, passion and dedication she gave to her time as the Tipperary Rose. She did not only herself but her parents and the local community so proud.”
