Meath Comhaltas group visits Nenagh

The Abbey Court Hotel was the scene of a large gathering of traditional musicians and their families at the end of last week as the local branch, Nenagh Ormond CCÉ, welcomed CCÉ Craobh Tlachtga from the Rathcarn/Athboy area of Co Meath to town for their bi-annual branch trip.

The travelling group comprised over 130 people of all ages who spent two days enjoying the delights of Nenagh. The trip included workshops given by local musicians for the Tlachtga members on Friday morning and many spent the day visiting Nenagh Castle, leisure centre and the town park.

On Friday night, a huge session was held in the ballroom of the hotel with Ormond branch joining Tlachtga members. In welcoming the Tlachtga branch to Nenagh, Ormond Cathaoirleach Tom Boland said it was inspirational to see how well the branch is supported, and seeing whole families travelling together to enjoy traditional music is a tribute to the organisation of the branch committee and to Comhaltas itself for providing the platform. Nollaig Ní Laoire of Tlachtga thanked the tutors for their work that morning and the staff of the Abbey Court Hotel for the great time they had. Members of the travelling party were very impressed with the hotel also, as well as with Nenagh town itself and the welcome they had received.

The session began with the under 12s and continued on late into the night with the adult musicians. There was some fantastic music played as well as singing and dancing by both groups.
