Tractor run for Ballycommon Sponsored Ride this Sunday

A tractor and classic car run will set out from Ballycommon village this Sunday as the curtain raises on another sponsored horse ride for a very good cause.

By now a well known fixture on the local events calendar, the Ballycommon Sponsored Ride is a cyclical outing that has raised tens of thousands of euros for five local charities. This is the seventh year of the 'BSR' and this time the recipient charity is TLC4CF (Tipperary, Limerick, Clare for Cystic Firbrosis).

To launch the event, the BSR organisers are hoping to draw a large crowd to Ballycommon this Sunday with a tractor fun run. Tractors of all ages are invited, as are vintage and classic cars. There will be a number of routes to choose from, with a tractor route of around 30km in length that should take around two and half hours to complete.

The entry fee has been set at €30 per vehicle and €10 per passenger. This includes entry into a draw for merchandise sponsored by Abbey Retail and Liffey Mills.

All vehicles will set out from the village at 1pm. After returning to Ballycommon, the fun will continue with a barbeque, music, a raffle and spot prizes at The Thatched Cottage.

Building on the success of last year's event, the 2017 Ballycommon Sponsored Ride is scheduled for Sunday March 19th. This promises to be a great day out for all the family with all the popular trappings back, including the 'Celebrity Wall', indoor hunt, pony puissance and tractor taxis.

The brochure for this year's event is currently being put together and local businesses are being invited to advertise. €50 will buy an ad in the brochure, which will be circulated at the event, while a €100 sponsorship package will include business advertising on the jumps for the ride itself.

It's all in aid of the local branch of TLC4CF, a charity geared towards providing a better standard of living for patients with cystic fibrosis in the Mid West region. Its volunteers are presently trying to raise funds to provide gym equipment at the newly opened CF unit at University Hospital Limerick, which caters for local patients.

Further details about BSR '17 will be announced in the coming weeks. For more about it and to take part in this Sunday's tractor run, contact 087-2430546.
