Roscrea girl helps secure Christmas No 1

Congratulations to Mairead Delaney from Mt Heaton, Roscrea, who played a pivotal role in helping upcoming Irish band 'Picture This' reach number one in the Ireland download charts for Christmas 2016.

Mairead is a member of the acclaimed Dublin choir 'The Line-Up' and sang with the band for their chart-topping song 'This Christmas'. The Line-Up and Picture This performed the song live on the Eoghan McDermott show on RTÉ 2FM in early December, which helped catapult the song to the success it has enjoyed since. Since then the song, the choir, and the band have received great acclaim from numerous national broadcasters and reviewers, cumulating in the number one slot and an award by joe.ie for best music act of the year.

Mairead who works in Dublin but travels back home regularly has been a member of The Line-Up for the past two years.

Commenting this week, Seamus Browne, the President of the local Chamber of Commerce said it was great for Roscrea to have some association with such an enormous achievement as a No1 hit in the Irish charts. The Chairman of the Enhancement Committee, Brian King added that Mairead, like many people from the area, either living at home or away, is a great example of someone doing something they enjoy and at the same time helping so many others in doing so. Brian said we were delighted to celebrate a world record in Roscrea last summer through golf so it is great to hear of this double achievement that another local person was involved with and he wished Mairead and her colleagues every continued success.
